Walid Abu-Albalaweh of the Hebron Rehabilitation Committee gives a special "tour" of the Old City of Hebron during the World Education Forum. The city is occupied by the IDF-Israeli Defense Force of over 1500 soldiers to protect (and support) the 400 settlers who have occupied buildings inside town. The market has been partly shut down for "security" reasons and partly has been abandoned by the Palestinians themselves, including a school. The Hebron Rehabilitation Committee is trying to give new life to these now almost empty parts of the town, to avoid further occupation by Israeli settlers.

Mustafa Bargouthi, democracy activist and politician, described the WEF as a key part of the international struggle for justice and peace. Invoking the words of Nelson Mandela, who upon his inauguration as president of South Africa said "our freedom will not be complete until the Palestinian people are free", Barghouti urged participants to join the global Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions Campaign (BDS), arguing that a broad international campaign similar to that which eventually brought down the South African apartheid regime is the only way to defeat the Israeli occupation. Presenting his vision of united and diverse Palestine, Barghouti denounced the remarks recently made by Angela Merkel about the failure of multiculturalism, insisting that there is place in the world, and in Palestine, for multiple cultures.

Ahmed is studying accounting at Birzeit University in Ramallah, Palestine. He has volunteered for translation and interpretation at the World Education Forum. He voices the perspective of students who are critical both of the Israeli occupation but also of the inactivity of their government and politicians. He is active in a campaign for education rights in Palestine.
