Via Campesina on Biodiversity
Currently the biggest international "Conference of the Paries to the Convention on Biological Diversity" is taking place for the 9th time - this time in Bonn, Germany. The two past weeks the "4th Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Biosecurity" took place there as well. In Bonn, the big agroindustrial multinationals as Monsanto, Dupont, Syngenta, Limagrain, Bayer and Pioneer are pushing for the wider introduction of transgenics (including the so called Terminator Seeds) and the further industrialisation and commercialization of agriculture - as solutions so called "food crisis" and climate change. Demo against the deportation of children and youth Berlin 2007
Nikolaus in Germany (at the 6th of December) is usually the day where the children get credit for being good/bad. Since the conference of the ministers of the interior - of those deciding about the migration laws - was taking place in Berlin at the 6th of December 2007, there was a demo organized to the hotel where the conference was to protest against the deportation of children and youth from Germany. The Army of Clowns
At the Anti War in Afghanistan Demo last year in Berlin, there was also the army of clowns and the initiative against the "bombodrom" which is a territory near Berlin, where the German army plans to practice dropping bombs. Since activists - at the run up of the protests against the G8 summit last summer - painted a watch tower pink - which freaked out the army officials who hasted to repaint it, as for them pink is the colour of homosexuality , feminism and all the other things that offend them, the symbol colour of the campaign is now pink and the slogan is "Every target is a home" since the target pyramid there was designed as abstract as possible to keept the soldiers practicing from thinking of the people they would kill if they dropped a bomb on them. Anti Hartz IV Demo Berlin 2007
Since the change of the German welfare and dole money system, there have been a lot of protests. The unemployed are e.g. forced to take any kind of work for one EUR an hour to not loose their welfare. Also the poverty numbers, especially of children, have plummeted. The wages have dropped, but only of the lower incomes groups, while the top level has severly increased their incomes. Read more…
