Full Description
The villagers of Kokjar and Tolok are facing a crisis that threatens the traditional herder lifestyles of these remote mountain communities. Overgrazing of pastures, the breakdown of social networks, geographic isolation, economic, social and physical infrastructure collapse, have all contributed to worsening conditions in rural Kyrgyzstan. Using short extracts from villagers’ films, made during 2006 and 2008 Visible Voice projects, this film illustrates aspects of everyday life, changing conditions in the villages and reflects upon the use of participatory video to support ethnographic research and community development.
