ETNOCIDE IN AMAZONIAN INDIAN LAND

BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT refuses health assistance in the Vale do Javari
Indigenous Land, where there is a hepatitis epidemia, it affects six
indigenous peoples plus many isolated peoples  (autonomous)

Brazilian governnment commits ethno genocide. More than 80% of the
adult population are infected in the Indigenous Land  Vale do Javari,
Amazonas states in Brazil, is infected with of hepatitis A, B, C and
Delta virus and they are dying. They also suffer with malaria. In the
Javari, there are many isolated people plus 5 ethnic groups – Korubo,
Marubo, Matis, Mayoruna, Kanamary e Kulina. The isolated people are
called autonomous people by the Indigenous people that live there.

On the 26th of Janary, one before it started the World Social Forum,
died Edilson Kanamary, from hepatitis Delta. He was an important young
(43 years old) indigenous leader from UNIVAJA (União dos Povos
Indígenas do Vale do Javari). Many of them are vomiting blood and
dying  without proper health assistance.

The Brazilian Ministerio Publico (federal public defensory) defensor,
Debora Duprat (Federal Public Ministery 6th Chamber) , said
yesterday(29th Jan) that  she had made everything she could, but now
"the public defensory cannot do anythingelse to save them". The
president fo FUNAI (Fundação Nacional do Indio), Mércio Meira, said
yesterday that they cannot solve the precarious and calamitous health
situation.

The  TI Vale do Javari has 8.544.444.000 hectars, and the second
biggest Indigenous Land in Brazil. There are 3.700 contacted Indians
living there plus many isolated people (autonomous people, as the
Indigenous called their relatives that prefer not to have contact with
the non-Indigenous people). It is located in the border with Peru,
close to the triple border Colombia, Peru and Brasil, High Solimoes.
