WSF 2009 in Aix-en-Provence: Public Services Tree - L'arbre aux Services Publics

A tree, taken as a symbol of Public Services (endangered specie, alive on public space, needing attention), is adorned with golden glittering material. Citizens write their wishes or claims on colourful strips, then activists lift them high up in the branches. Journalists come and take pictures and propagate our message. Pedagogy is developed in the street through funny devices. A strong vibration brings joy as the energetic Batucada (Puls Batouk) plays. A videoconference live with Belem WSF makes much sense.

Full Description
This public action was initiated by Attac Pays d'Aix and Fac Verte (Green University) to echo the WSF 2009 in Belem.
It is a pacific, aesthetic street action, however it brings passerby citizens to act in a strong and meaningful way.
You can see the golden glittering tree. It means that Public Services, common interest of people, access for all to common goods...represent uppermost values.
You can observe citizens writing down what they reclaim from an elected representrative, or their wish for the future world.
Try to read what is written on the green board : the old tree speaks to you !
All colorful strips, all wishes now float in the wind. The tree elevates our wishes, what we reclaim in multitude is plainly visible.
Street pedagogy is develop by means of funny devices :
-"Sharing the cake, sharing the wealth" : when you experience it, you feel the market forces in your arm and try to resist.If you succeed, workers get their share, pensions are secured, happiness and dignity for all is at hand.
-"Free competition world", leads you to understand the downward spiral of useless cendless competition, then to try collaboration, then understand that harmonisation is required, for example fair trade rules.
-"Citizen crossing sign board" (Carrefour des choix de société) shows opposite directions and carries strong messages.
Megaphone for political message. Batucada"Pusabatouk" joyful rythms, Solidarity everywhere, Live conference with Belem. That is wonderful. Let us continue and develop together.
The other possible world already takes shape in Belem.
